The Orion Spacecraft

Now that the Space Shuttle Program has ended, NASA is working on the Orion Spacecraft.

NASA's Constellation Program was to include a new spacecraft that would return humans to the moon and serve as the building blocks for trips to Mars and other destinations in our solar system.

The Orion spacecraft would be similar in shape to the Apollo spacecraft, but significantly larger. The first manned flight is hoping to be scheduled around 2016.

  1. I looked in to it a little more... really interesting stuff! I just wish NASA could get the Webb telescope up and operational, that would be a dream come true for me.

  4. you know cool stuff like this will get the ax first when the budget woes come back. We can afford to kill millions of people in 3rd world countries but can't take care of our own citizens our help explore space to help better all humanity...

  6. I think NASA is moving in a positive direction. I hope they will focus less on the moon and more on asteroids and comets.

  7. For a moment there I thought NASA was reviving Project Orion, the spacecraft that was to be propelled by nuclear explosions, but this Orion is much more sane! Bye bye space shuttle, it was fun while it lasted!

  8. I always love me some good inter-space travel. I just question NASA's goals in cancelling the space exploration program (or at least the human part of it). Dunno what they were thinking there.
